Just Add Numbers

Over at Just Add Ink... the challenge is to Just Add Numbers.  I have a whole canister full of wooden numbers that always get forgotten.  Now is the perfect time to use them. Of course, the standard joke on birthday cards is "29 again" so I couldn't resist. Actually, the new one will be "WTF?" Who's turning fifty...cause we're all starting to head that way.

The tag was created using gelli plates back in 2014 at Retreat.  Yep...still using those ;-)

It's the Small Things

OMG!  I have been playing with my Paris Flea Market kit and am. In. Love!  I couldn't stop creating all kinds of things with this kit.  That was a teaser...because I got two (non-card, non-layout) projects done as well as many cards.  So here's the first of my cards for you this week.

 

I created the background using different washi tapes.  I am embarrassed to say that I have a washi tape obsession. So bad that when we made washi tape organizers at retreat,  Cindy gave me hers!

 The card was based on this sketch from Freshly Made Sketches but I just felt it needed a sentiment or quote.

 

 

My Sierra

I love my Sierra.  She'll be 17 this year and we just noticed she's going deaf. She wouldn't acknowledge us when her back was to us and I figured she was just getting cranky in her old age. Then we noticed we would accidentally startle her if she didn't actually see us come in the room. My sweet girl is even talking quite loud which makes sense. I love this picture of her!  She sits in my craft room with me and just watches me work.

Reverse Color Burst

So I was playing with my Color Bursts today when I got carried away and created a whole bunch of background panels. The problem was that I wanted to do the resist technique on one. That technique requires you to emboss an image on the paper and then use the color bursts.  The ink is resistant to the embossed image. Here's an example made at Retreat 2015.

So I thought...what the heck...let's emboss it anyways. I embossed in clear powder.

 After I embossed I wanted to tone down the color a bit to see if that would help bring the image around.  I ended up taking most of the color off by rewetting the paper and using a towel to pick up the color.  It didn't turn out great.  I just set it to the side and thought I'd make scraps with it. After about an hour I walked by it and said out loud "Holy crap! That is not the same panel!" The embossing held the color to the paper while the rest was wiped way.

Paris Flea Market

Club Scrap has out done themselves again!

Every few months I say..."This is my favorite kit!"  Well truly, Paris Flea Market is one of my top 3 favorite kits because now I can't decide. I absolutely love the colors and I just happen to love everything Paris.  Paris is on my bucket list.  I've been soooo close but never quite made it there. In fact, next month we'll be in France again but in the Riviera.  

So...while I wait for my pizza box to arrive I'll just have to play with my digital kit. Here's a QDDL that took 2 minutes to create. 

Birthday Color Bursts

If you've noticed a color theme going on here...I'm working my way through the Cinema Greetings to Go kit by Club Scrap.  It was the August 2014 collection and I'm just now getting to it.  I was working on finishing up card kits for the Winter PSL Week Two challenge which uses ribbon. 

This card uses up the last of the Color Burst backgrounds from last week's Blog Hop. I also incorporated the sketch from Fusion's challenge.

White Weathered Florals

Welcome to the Club Scrap Artist Team challenge!  This month we all received the Weathered Florals unmounted stamps to create with. Believe it or not, I did not already have this collection ;-) I know, shocking.

I came across this white pencil highlighting technique while watching Jennifer McGuire YouTube videos. I really like this one because I could stamp the image and take the panels on the go and finish up elsewhere. 

Stamp the panel with white ink and heat set.

Shade in the images with a white pencil to your liking. Make sure to sharpen pencil often.

Stamp sentiment and emboss with white embossing powder. I just kept it simple to let the art work speak for itself. 

I couldn't help it...I really liked this technique so I created one in red as well. 

Using my grid ruler I added borders along the sides.

While I was embossing with the white powder, I really loved the look of white on the red card stock and started playing with the images.  The red flowers really took my breath away.  I stamped and embossed several flowers and cut different layers to give dimension. 

This next card I used the lines to create my own plaid look. I originally tried several panels with purples, grays and red and they just didn't look right. I think softer colors work better. I also kept embellishments to minimum since the background is heavy.
