Bee Mine

July's Technique Challenge over at Club Scrap is Black & White.  We're challenged with using a white art medium with our stamps or stencils on black paper.  For this card I used light weight spackle with my Dahlia stencil. I love the stark contrast and dimension the spackle adds.  This has always been a favorite medium for me to use with my stencils.

I Pick You

Less is More is hosting sketch #22 challenge.  Since I had my "never been used stencils" out, I thought this would be a great opportunity to use this beauty with embossing powders.  I love the bold contrast the white and red create.

Dahlia's and Hydrangea's

So..I'm actually out of the country right now. Karen was so kind enough to mail me my Dahlia kit early which gave me time to create.  Even with that extra time I knew I couldn't come up with something elaborate, and the girls on this hop are crafting superstars! So I went digging through my unfinished project bin and came out with the Hydrangea Stitch Bound Book. The colors are actually very similar with Dahlia being quite a bit bolder. 

I traded out the cover pages and some of the inside pages for the Dahlia and used the Dahlia cutaparts. Here is the front outside cover and the back inside cover. It did take a little extra positioning to get the print just where I wanted it. 

Each inside page is folded, scored and pierced for easy stitching. It's been awhile since I've done a hand-stitched book but it's like riding a bike. I cheated with the first two photos below because Kay's photos from Club Scrap are much better than mine.

Here's the final album with the decorated outside cover. 

A peak at the inside.  I used three of the cutaparts stacked on each other with dimension. I also used photo corners instead of adhering the photos to the pages so they can be changed later. I tend to compose my photos using the entire frame so cropping photos down is difficult.  Many of my handmade albums use the entire page for one photo.

Butterflies Love Dahlias

Welcome to the Club Scrap artist challenge! If you've arrived here from Donna's post then you're in the right place. You can start from the beginning at Club Scrap. 

We've been given the challenge to create butterflies or flowers from paper and incorporate them into our projects.  I had actually pinned dozens of handmade flower ideas until I got a look at my Easter photos and just had to do butterflies! My niece is just the cutest little bug that I adore with my whole heart.  Getting a photo of her is almost impossible.  Even when I put the camera on "sports" mode. I wish I had that energy...

Once I started with the layout, I just knew it was going to be more of a wall art piece than a scrapbook layout. I was just having fun adding dimension. It just might end up being a Mother's Day gift. 

Club Scrap papers and tags. Creatology feather. Style Steals flower. Celebrate it! doily and wood title. Copics and Stickles for accents. 

I used this 2 minute video to make these lovely origami butterflies. I added straight pins for the antennae and pearl strips on the body to make them more feminine. These little guys are so easy to make. Using a light weight paper is the key to this technique. You can also see Tricia make that three part bow on YouTube.

Painted Perfection

Painted Perfection...what a great title for this QDDL. My sister-in-law was completing a day care project that displays the family's hand prints on top of each other. It's actually quite comical to try and get a single painted hand print from an 18 month old! Gave us some good giggles on this Easter morning.

My Hand in Yours

Thought I'd share a Dahlia QDDL with you. These are so quick that it takes me longer deciding what photo I'm going to use than creating the entire layout. It's already created for me! Just drop your photo, flatten and save.  That's it!

I love this photo of my mom (Granny is what she like to be called) and my niece. Sometimes it's just as hard for me to get my mother to sit still as it is my niece!

April Card Sketch

This month's card sketch over at the Club Scrap forum is one of my favorites.  It's perfect for using up those little scrap pieces left over from cards or layouts. I usually keep a small stack of scraps while working with a kit but when I'm done I only keep scraps that are 4x6 or 5x7.

Remember how I said you'd see the large Dahlia stamp again...here she is! What I love the most about this stamps is you really don't have to add lots of embellishments to dress it up. 

This first card I color washed the background watercolor paper with Color Bursts and heat set. I then sprayed the stamps with water and stamped the background. Let the stamp sit on the panel for a few seconds so the water gets absorbed.  I then embossed in white "Woohoo".

This next card I color washed a background panel with Color Bursts again.  After it dried I stamped the Dahlia and embossed with white embossing powder. I then added more color to some of the petals with the color wash.  It's very subtle which was the look I was going for. 

I'm not sure I got this stamp out of my system yet...you might see more :)

Rainbow of Colors

Happy Monday!  I thought we could all use a little color this Monday. Sunday Stamps is hosting a colorful rainbow of a challenge. The timing is perfect with the new release of Club Scraps Dahlia kit! You can't help but to smile at these warm, vibrant colors. I'm in the process of making Mother's Day cards for moms and grandmas and just love this quote. Here I used a small slice of a color burst panel I created the other day, partially embossed the quote box and added a rosette from a store bought birthday card I received sometime ago.

Quote Our Mothers

My new Club Scrap kit arrived and the colors of Dahlia make me so happy! 

They're so vibrant you just have to see them in person! 





 What I really fell in love with is the big dahlia stamp!

You'll be seeing a lot of this stamp this week because I was trying different techniques with my Color Bursts.

Here I painted the color busts in water directly on to the stamp and then stamped. The second stamping came out more defined but I really like the watery look to this one. The mothers quote is perfect timing to complete those Mother's Day cards. I wonder if they do that on purpose...
