This month's Idea Deck challenge is to use the 9 of diamonds from any of the 5 idea decks.  I thought the cards with the strips looked intriguing. I liked that I could stamp and mask a quote or use random words within a category.

Love

Wednesday's blog post showcased a digital layout from a beautiful wedding I attended this summer.  Today I wanted to share with you the paper version.  I used the Ace of Spades from Idea Deck Vol. I as my inspiration.

For the title I covered the wooden title with ink and then stamped a script image and let dry.  

 The washi tape border has black Nuvo drops for added depth.

 

 



Winter Chills

Cards in Envy is hosting a Winter Chills challenge. How appropriate is that since much of the Midwest and East Coast have been blanketed with snow and below freezing temperatures.

 

These cards were also designed for the Idea Deck Challenge over at Club Scrap using the Card Making Deck Vol. I.  I just love how the sketches and cutting instructions are included on each card. There is only one deck left out of five so get it before it's gone.

Scandinavian Magical Christmas

We had a very magical Disneyland vacation this year.  Although I would have liked the weather to be a bit chillier, the Christmas feeling was definitely in full swing.

 

I used the Scandinavian Holidays digital kit to create this layout of my two favorite photos from the weekend. The layout design was inspired by the Idea Deck Challenge using the 6 of hearts from Idea Deck Vol. II.

The Gift of Love

I was so in love with the October Scandinavia collection that I had to buy every piece of the Scandinavia Holiday collection as well. I just love the images and color combination of this kit.

 

November's Idea Deck Challenge is to use the King of Clubs from any of the 5 Idea Decks. Here I used the King of Clubs from Vol. II which is a card making idea deck. I thought this gave me a great opportunity to use those vellum papers I've been hoarding. These cards came together so quickly that I may make multiples and use them as early Christmas gifts. 

I picked up some Christmas stencils by Carta Bella recently and couldn't wait to use some spackle with them.  I love the texture this gives!

Be Original

October's Idea Deck challenge was to use the 10 of diamonds from any Idea Deck.  I chose to use the Card Making Idea Deck Vol. II. (This happens to be the only Idea Deck left for sale of the five decks.) These decks sell out quickly! The Idea Decks provide you with sketches and cutting instructions for a multitude of layouts, cards and projects. They're great for when you lose your crafting mojo.

 

Usually I shy away from these little squares but the stamp images from the Scandinavia collection are perfect for decorating them.

Gettysburg

I have a silly fascination with squished penny souvenirs. I'm like a little kid when I see these machines. I usually jump up and down clapping my hands holding out my hands to my husband. "Do you have any pennies?!" He just shakes his head and pretends not to know me. Luckily Cindy has the same fascination and didn't leave me stranded :)

 I thought today would be an appropriate day to post this Gettysburg layout. It was the last time we all got together and caused chaos in Pennsylvania.  The Fabulous Four are flying into Wisconsin today for our annual Club Scrap Retreat.

Squeeze the Day

When I was looking at the options for this month's Idea Deck Challenge I was really hesitant about all those squares and stripes from the Card Idea Deck Vol. I. When other members started posting their versions, I knew I had to give it a try.  Now to be honest, it did take me a few minutes to figure out the sketches for the smaller cards. I ended up with extra pieces so I might not have gotten it right ;-)

 

To add some variety and interest to the plain cardstock pieces I  stamped the script stamp and speckle stamps from Orchard's Art Nouveau collection. I used Greetings to Go cut-apart squares in place of stamping for others.

I stamped different fruits, colored with Copics and fussy cut. These make great embellishments. If you look close you'll see the wood grain stenciling on the white panel.

 

Bumper Lane

Since I had the Picnic collection out on my desk for the Past & Present challenge I thought I'd use the last of the papers for my bowling layout.  To complete the Idea Deck challenge I used the 8 of spades from Idea Deck II for the design.

 

I'm not sure that serving wine at a bowling alley is a good idea. I can barely score a 100 on a good day. With wine...gutter bumpers are a must! :) We sure did have a great time celebrating Gia's 40 something birthday.

Tall Z Fold

The Idea Deck challenge is a great way to learn different and fun folding cards. I love being challenged to try something out of my comfort zone. The original sketch for these Z fold cards calls for some different elements that I changed. I added metallic washi tape inside of the paper strip and used an oval die cut instead of the rectangle.  I stamped a bunch of images, heat embossed with silver and fussy cut to add some embellishing. 

 

If you're looking for an Idea Deck there is only one set out of five left in the Club Scrap store. Get it while you can! You can sometimes find them on Ebay as well.  They are a great source of inspiration and instruction.

I've been impressed with some of the ladies on the Club Scrap Forum and how they've managed to create one card utilizing several challenges.  I dared myself to make a card using four of the challenges and here's what I came up with.

Adventure Awaits

May's Idea Deck Challenge is to use the 4 of Spades from any Idea Deck. I actually choose Vol. II's sketch because I liked it the least and saw that no one had posted it yet. I know that sounded weird but I like a challenge. You never know if you're going to like something if you don't try it, right?  I absolutely love how this layout turned out! 

 

I did deviate from the original cutting instructions a bit.  The sketch calls for both background papers to be the same but I didn't want to use two "Adventure Awaits" papers.  Initially the blue cardstock didn't look right.  So I stared at it and thought I could paint, add texture or stamp on it.  I remembered that  the Raku collection had a crackle-like stamp.  I think it looks perfect next to the wood paper!

 

When I was looking through photos to use with the Adirondacks I came across camping pictures that included my uncle who passed away suddenly several years ago. I think this layout was just meant to be.

Seven of Hearts

April's Idea Deck challenge this month is to use the seven of hearts from any Idea Deck.  The interesting thing about this selection is that both card decks had matchbook style cards.  They're a little bit different than the standard card but fun to create.  This set is from the Card Making Deck #1 and makes three cards.  The top of the first two card folds over the front cover.  Instead of using a staple to secure, I punched two holes and wove ribbon through them.  I scored the front panel to make it easier to open. Your handwritten greetings goes on the inside.

You Brighten My Day

I'm still dabbling with ideas for the Idea Deck Challenge using the 2 of Spades from the Card Making Deck. I wanted to use some of the pattern papers from the Delft collection but didn't realize how bold they'd been in the end.  They totally get your attention!

Winter Travels

This layout was created using the sketch from ALSB card deck Vol. 1 Queen of Diamonds. It originally had 8 photo squares on the right side. I really didn't have that many photos that could be cropped down so I just made them part of the background. I embossed the squares with a snowflake embossing folder to give them some definition.

 

We had such a great trip in December.  Traveling in our RV up to Vancouver, Canada.  We stopped to see friends and family on our way back down to Cali. It was cold, snowy and rainy and I loved every minute!

Packers Game

Time to step away from the Succulents collection and get some actual layouts done. I'm starting to fall behind.  This layout was created using the Queen of Diamonds from Idea Deck ALS Vol. II for the Idea Deck Challenge.

Queen of Diamonds

I cannot stop raving about my Idea Decks from Club Scrap!  These gems are paramount in my crafting process. It doesn't matter if I'm creating layouts or cards, they take all the guess work out of cutting and design. Really, the hardest part for creating these cards below was deciding what papers to use!

 

This month's Idea Deck Challenge is to use the Queen of Diamonds from any deck. I believe these are from Idea Deck #5. The sketch creates 4 cards.  I used papers, ribbons and tags from Succulents. You may also notice that each card uses three tiny embellishments of pearls, Nuvo drops or gems. This weeks PSL (Pro Scrapbookers League) challenge is to use three of a kind on your layouts, cards or projects.

Of all five decks only one still remains for sale. Get it quick!
