While we're on vacation we have the philosophy to "eat our way through" the area we're visiting. I love just walking through open air markets and taking pictures of all the fresh meats , fruits and veggies out on display.  We certainly ate our way through Italy and enjoyed watching all the fresh pasta being made. Of course, eating it was pretty spectacular as well :) This layout highlights just a touch of that goodness.

There are so many videos to choose from but lucky for me I had just cleaned out my tag drawer and came across these tags.  I didn't even know where they were from until I saw this Altered Aluminum Tags video from 2011. These tags have a foam mat in between the layers making them perfect for "impressing".

 Let's get started with creating some art work with these beauties.

1. Stamp image on tag using permanent ink.

 2. Using an embossing tool, trace image. We received this awesome kit at retreat one year which makes this job sooo much easier. You can even change the tips of the embossing tool for those tight images.

3. Remove ink using Alcohol ink blending solution.

4. Color metal tag using alcohol inks or Copic markers. 
5. Using blending solution gently wipe away some of the color. I wanted to highlight the color in the impressed images. 
6. Create cards with tags.

Frame it Up

Inspiration for this technique came from July's NBUS (Never Before Used Stuff) challenge on the Club Scrap forum. The goal is to create a frame using your stamps or stencils.  Now you could just use a "frame" type stamp but I decided to use those small border type stamps and create frames.  This turned out to be a little more difficult than expected.  I'm too much of a perfectionist and really like my frame corners to be exact.

 

 

I started off with using the large 5x7 cards from the Vintage Botany Greetings to Go collection. This first card I used a half circle dotted stamp from "By the Seashore". I stamped it twice to make a full circle.  Easy peasy, right?! With a little masking, it does line up well.

Here's another simple border stamp from Navajo that I used to frame the background mat. I did use my Misti to line up the sides. I love how the green leafy paper we received in Transformations matches well with Vintage Botany!

 I absolutely adore how this framing worked on this card!  I used the Versailles stencil which I do believe I've never used.  I taped off the section of the stencil (1/2 inch from each corner) I didn't want to use and inked all four sides directly onto the card base.

I have a little secret about my bows on cards.  Bows and knots on ribbon (especially the wider ribbons) make the card very bulky for mailing.  I run the mat with the bow or knot tied through my Big Shot.  It totally flattens the knot and makes mailing so much easier.

Now this last card did not photography very well and I apologize. I die cut the frame and added the sentiment along the edges.  Now...this took several attempts to get right.  You really do need to pay attention to the direction of the sentiment. Just rotating the frame each time you stamped didn't work well.  Some sentiments were upside down, one side was reading up and one side was reading down.  I added dimensional foam adhesive to the frame and backed it with a very light monochromatic print.

This is a challenge made for me.  I love combining kits!  So when Karen asked us to combine two or more collections I got carried away.  In total...there are over 10 different kits on this layout. Can you name them all? Answers are at the bottom.

How sassy is this little princess?! Just look at the half grin.  I get that look too just before I'm about to do something rotten.  She soooo takes after me!

Artist Team Bouquet

Each member of the team is pulling inspiration from the Stamped Bouquet unmounted rubber stamps that debuted at the Club Scrap 2016 Retreat. You can see the retreat projects created here.  For this blog hop, I decided I wanted to keep a fairly monochromatic theme with kraft backgrounds.
 

1.  Stamp rose flower several times with watermark ink.

2.  Stamp cluster flower with watermark ink.

3.  Heat emboss all images with white embossing powder.

4.  Color roses with white pencil.

5.  Cut out several different layers from each rose.

6.  Layer with foam circles. Add bling.

7.  Stencil image on background panel with White ink. Heat set.

8.  Stamp sentiment on paper strip.

9.  Add elements together.
 

1. Place washi tape on background panel just below center.

2. Stamp cluster image with watermark ink and heat emboss in white.

3. Remove washi tape to leave a space.

4. Stamp sentiment in brown ink.

5. Color in image with white pencil.
6. Add small washi tape to left border.
7. Add gold Nuvo drops for interest.

  

1.  Distress edges of background panel.
2.  Stamp or hand draw frame.
3.  Die cut oval. Stamp sentiment and sprigs.
4.  Color sprigs with watermark pen.
5.  Stamp flower and leaves and heat emboss in white.
6.  Color flower with white pencil.
7.  Adhere oval with foam adhesive.
8.  Assemble pieces. Add gem.

These two cards are similar to above but with slightly different elements.

 A slightly large piece of washi tape was used to create a sentiment space. Background splattered with gelatos.

Travel Far

Each member of the team is pulling inspiration from Alphabet Stencils. They're available in both lower case and upper case. I was first introduced to these stencils at the October Retreat.  We received the lower case set as a free goodie.

 

When my husband and I were traveling through Canada and down the East Coast we stopped in this little spice shop in Portland, Maine. We fell in love with their hand-made sign that read:  Travel Far. Eat Well. Live Long. That is totally our motto.  It just so happens that were on a Foodie Tour of Portland. Maine.  We love to travel and try the foods of the region.  I was unable to find one on-line that I like and decided to make my own with my stencils.

 

I painted this $7.00 thrift store find with Chalk Paint. It's a huge wooden tag by Danielson Designs.

 



After several layers of paint I marked off the top and bottom of the tag using 1" painter's tape.

This will be my guides for the top of the letters along the top and bottom of the letters along the bottom.



Being the "attention to detail" person that I am, I marked the center and stenciled my letters in pencil out from the center.
Thank goodness for the penciling first. I misspelled "Travel".

Once I had the top and bottom lines done I measured, centered and marked another 1" line for the bottom of the middle line.

I'm going to stop here and apologize for the terrible photos and for not photographing the key important step. 

I was so excited that I didn't screw up the stenciling that I forgot to take a photo :(

Next step would have shown you to take the stencil and retrace the letters using a Sharpie. 

Yep...a Sharpie. 

I suck at painting and there was no way this would have turned out otherwise.



 I added handmade no-sew burlap rosettes for added interest.

Faux Batik

Each member of the team is pulling inspiration from January's Color Me Happy collection which is full of gorgeous batik images. We're here to demonstrate how to create batik-like images with your paper creations.  I have several techniques I'd like to share with you. They all involve an iron.  I'm sad to say that my iron has touched more paper than clothes in it's lifetime :)

This first technique is the most simple.  I started with the embossed white print from Shades of Winter and added Color Bursts directly to the paper and sprayed with water.  Let dry. Wipe the paper with a paper towel to remove the color from the resistant white print.

After drying I trimmed the paper into 4 smaller panels.
 

Next place a piece of computer paper on top of the print and iron with a hot iron (no steam). You'll see the embossed image show through the paper. This is the raised embossed print being removed from the paper. You're left with a flat matte panel mimicking a batik finish.

In a similar technique, I stamped an image and heat embossed with white embossing powder. 

Color image with Pan Pastels. Remove embossed image with paper and iron as above.

This third technique is inspired by our team member Roni who posted this tutorial back in 2007. Start with mulberry paper. It really does make a difference. The fibers that show through really make this fun.  Stamp your image in Versamark ink and heat set with white embossing powder.

 

I deviated from the original instructions because I was too lazy to mix my own misting sprays.

So I just rubbed ink over the paper and images.

 Next, remove the embossing powder with your iron as above.

Crinkle up your paper, smooth out but don't iron. You need those creases.

Lightly rub a darker color ink pad back over the paper. I used gray.

Chalk Painting

Welcome to the Club Scrap Artist Team Blog Hop! This month we've been challenged with using the Enchanted Forest unmounted stamp sheet, Girlfriends unmounted stamp sheet, and the Sunflowers Sparkle Stickers.

When I first spotted the twig stamp from Girlfriends, I thought this would make a beautiful wreath. but when I finished stamping the "wreath" in a circular form I thought it looked more like a snowflake. The inside is quite messy so I did what I learned from Jac at retreat...cover it up with chalk paint!

 

Once I painted the chalk on the center I still didn't like it. I didn't know what to do with the center until I found some snowflake die cuts. I pulled the center gem off and replaced it with the larger sparkle sticker.  I then added a Wink of Stella to add shimmer and now I love it!

Since I had the chalk paint out, I might as well keep going. Here I placed a wide strip of washi tape on my card and painted chalk paint on the washi and swiping off onto the card. Removed the tape and use the open area for stamping.

 

 

This final card is really directly out of the Stamped Bouquet class Jac taught. I stamped the floral image in parchment pigment ink, painted chalk paint over some of the flowers and restamped in permanent black ink.

 

I used masks over the flowers I wanted to keep white while stamping in black.
