The Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers is hosting an Ironmongery challenge. What perfect timing!  I had just finished creating a handful of gelli plate prints using up the last of my acrylic paints.  I only had darker colors and metallic paints left.  It's been so long since I've created art with my gelli plates that I forgot how messy and therapeutic it is.

Hello Fusion

Fusion Card's recent challenge found me using new and old products.  I found a stack of Gelli plate tags I created last year that match perfectly with the card bases I had out on my desk. At the last scrapbook expo I came across this mini alphabet die by Elizabeth Craft Designs and haven't had a chance to use it yet.  The letters fit perfectly on the ribbon.

For the Love of Gelli!

Welcome to August's Artist Team Blog Hop brought to you by Club Scrap. This month we've been challenged to use Pinterest’s newest feature “Tried it". With all the Distress Oxide ink craze going on I wanted to give my other art mediums some love.  My Gelli plate has definitely been neglected lately.

I searched through Club Scrap's Pinterest and found the Gelli Printing board. There are tons of great ideas here.

 

So let's get started.

 1.  Add acrylic paint to your gelli plate.

2.  Spread paint with a brayer.

3. Place stencil down on gelli plate.

4.  Place paper or vellum on top of stencil and rub back of paper to make good contact with the paint.

5. Remove paper set aside to dry.  Carefully pull off stencil and place a second piece of paper on top of the gelli plate to get another print.

6. Repeat steps with different stencils or masks. Use the same print over and over until you're happy with the design or use a different piece of paper each time. 

Here's just a sample of some of the prints I created.

Now let's do something with these...like make some cards.

 

 

Gelli prints aren't just for card backgrounds. Stamp an image onto the print, fussy cut and use as an embellishment.  I like this option since I'm not very good at coloring images.

Fun and Fancy Folds

This month's technique challenge is to use some fun and fancy folds in your projects.  I have to be honest...I didn't get real creative in coming up with a fun fold.  I used the card designs in the Succulent's Greetings to Go collection. I simply followed the instructions.  I couldn't help it.  They were sitting out on my desk when the challenge was presented. Think smarter not harder ;-)

 

Score and fold the 4x8" card base horizontally at 5”. Score the 2x8” cardstock

horizontally at 2⅛ and 6⅜” and fold the flaps inward. Line up the  long scored strip to the bottom edge of the card base and adhere. Use a panel on the inside to hide the seems. Fold all flaps inward.

Fusion Card Challenge



Early in the month I created gelli prints in bulk and thought I'd share the process again.  It's been awhile since I dusted off the gelli plates.  I love having a stash on hand for a backgrounds. These can take a card from drab to WOW instantly.

 

This first card was created for this week's Fusion Card Challenge.



Club Scrap paper and stencil. Dazzles gold stickers. Darice embossing folder. Spellbinders die sentiment. Elizabeth Craft Designs Circle die.

 

 

But I didn't stop there...Here's the process and more:

 

Add acrylic paint to your gelli plate with a brayer.  

 

I mixed colors to get my color choice.

 

Add a stencil on top of paint and gelli plate.

 

Add paper on top of stencil and rub backside of paper to get a good coverage.

Remove paper.

 

Pull stencil off gelli plate and add another panel to pick up the remaining paint.

Rub paper against gelli plate.

Repeat the process on the same panel until you like the results.

Now what to do with those panels?  Keep your creations simple.

Freshly Made Sketches #274

Happy Friday!

Today I'm putting together cards from my new Succulents Greetings to Go Collection. I had a sneak peak at the color combinations for this gorgeous kit and premade some Gelli Plate prints.  I'll have more on the process later next week.

Recycled ATCs

Every so often I like to just create art panels. Sometimes I'll just break out the Color Bursts or the Gelli plates and get messy! When I do make a mess with these art mediums, I tend to make lots and lots of panels. Some good, some not so good. Unfortunately those panels start to pile up and I have to do something with them. I decided to let go of formalities and just start using up items being neglected. That led me to creating ATCs with these orphans. Sometimes art work looks better in a 2.5 x 3.5 format!

 

This first set was created using Color Burst panels that didn't make it into a project.

I simply added some rub-ons or stamp, sequins, charms and staples.

This second set was created with Gelli print panels I originally created for the Boardwalk collection but didn't make the cut.

I was able to use up remaining tags with just a simple ribbon behind them. 

 

Don't be surprised if you see these floating around Retreat next month!

 

Can You Case It? Sunflowers

What perfect timing! Can You Case it? is hosting a color challenge using yellows, greens and neutrals.  I happen to be working with the Sunflower Greetings to Go collection this weekend. This collection is so fun and happy!  Here's a few cards made with the long and narrow cards.

Gardners Know the Best Dirt

I was going through sketches to gather inspiration for more "messy" cards. I wanted to use up some of the gelli plate panel cards that were created at retreat several years ago. Really...I need to use these beauties up! I didn't get a chance to upload the cards to their respected challenges in time. Sometimes life just gets in the way with creativity.

 

This first one was also used for the NBUS (Never Been Used Stuff) challenge at Club Scrap. I've never really used any of the quote stamps from Farmer's Market. I actually have someone in mind for this one!

This second card was created with two separate gelli prints but you'd never know it. The panels are a little dark and mysterious and just screamed Halloween to me.

Summer...Anything Goes

Anything Goes!  I just love, love, love these challenges. 

It gives me the freedom to use whatever is one my work surface and Love to Scrap! is hosting an Anything Goes challenge this week.

 

I just love backgrounds made with gelli prints. 

Here I created this background on my gelli plate using red, white, blue and gold acrylic paints. "Stamping" various stencils and plastic canvas squares.
