The Azores

We were blessed with sunny weather while visiting the Azores which I understand is unusual. Our travels this day took us to a pineapple farm where all the fruit is grown in greenhouses. Pineapples take nearly two years to grow in the Azores.

I finally got around to playing with my Stampin' Up "You're my Hero" collection. I was inspired by Karen's Acrylic Block Stamping to create some backgrounds for these stamps.

 

I scribbled red gelato ink on an acrylic block, spritzed it with water and then applied it to mixed media paper, letting the block sit on the paper to soak up the gelatos.

Orchard Watercolor

Welcome to September's Artist Team Blog Hop brought to you by Club Scrap. This month we've been challenged to incorporate watercolor techniques with our projects. I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to dust off those Faber-Castell Gelatos.

Gelatos are acid-free pigment ink sticks that can be used with or without water.  I love the bright colors and creamy texture of the Gelatos.  The fact they look like lipstick tubes is kinda cute too.

1. Directly color the stamp with your gelatos. I usually start with the lightest color first and work to the darkest.

2. Mist water directly on to the stamp.

3. Stamp image onto paper.  I used all sorts of papers: cardstock, watercolor and mixed media papers. I didn't find one worked better than another.

You don't need a Misti, I was making a ton of panels.

4. Repeat the process.  I usually got two good clear images without misting more water onto the stamp.  After two imprints, I would re-mist without recoloring.  It just changes the boldness of the image.  I like all the different varieties you can get.

I could have easily created other images with the gelatos but I wanted to challenge myself and use the same image in different ways. Let's start with the simple designs first. Simply mat the collage image and add a greeting.

Trim panels and triple mat images. Stack images.

Trim collage image into quadrants and mat. Stamp sentiment. Color images with Copic markers and fussy cut. Slice a opening into the basket to tuck in peaches. Stamp background multiple times and apply splatters.

Here's my favorite of the group! Stamp words on dark background with oxide ink. Ink edges and spray with water. Let dry.  Take gelato panel and distress edges. Stamp images and color with copic markers. Fussy cut images. Die cut a sign out of wood paper and stamp sentiment. Attach sentiment to a wood stake. Slice a opening in the basket and tuck in sign and fruit.

Way to Go!

I am so proud of my BFF's daughter!  She recently graduated high school and will be on her way to a small university in South Dakota on a full scholarship!  I wanted to make a special card for her graduation party and couldn't think of a better way than with a library pocket and card.  Her school colors were red and black and  I just happened to have Tahiti papers out on my desk for the Past & Present challenge. I stamped the sentiment on the top of the card so it would show and splattered black gelato ink.

Micahels had a great sale on washi tape and I couldn't resist buying these metallic sets. Of course I had to get the silver, gold and bronze sets. A girl can't have too many rolls of washi tape!

 

The Card Concept #64 challenge uses my favorite color combination. Gold, black and pink. What great timing with Valentine's Day approaching soon. 

 

Here I used gelatos to splatter the background in black and gold. Stamp the sun image twice from Color Me Happy and gold heat emboss. Stamp sentiment in center of one sun. Next color the suns with pink Copics and fussy cut images. Stack images using foam adhesive circles.  I added pink sequins with black Nuvo pearl drops for a final touch.

Acrylic Block Stamping

November's technique challenge over at Club Scrap is to go "painty" and create background panels using your acrylic stamping blocks with different art mediums.  I was playing with my Gelatos and wanted to see how that would turn out.  When I started coloring I realized that I was coloring on the grid side by mistake.  No worries...let's play this out and see what happens. 

 

 

 I colored on my Tim Holtz acrylic blocks with gelatos, sprayed it with water and stamped.

 

 

I totally love the faint grid pattern that developed.

 

 

Now to created something with these. 

I had the Paradise Greetings to Go handy and couldn't resist using these uniquely folded cards.

 

 I stamped on the tickets but it's really light. Nuvo Crystal drops are my new fav.

Say Yes to Pink

All I can say is "WOW!" I absolutely love the new Paradise collection by Club Scrap.  The colors are spectacular (especially that pink) and the double sided papers are so fun to tear with the opposite color showing.

 

I always dive right into the Greetings to Go portion of the kits. After getting a sneak peak at the different folds of this collection I couldn't wait to start creating some cards.

 

I try to use a different medium each month and wanted to see how the stamps would look with Gelatos. I love how the Gelatos bleed into the image and fill in some areas, which work perfectly with the outlined Paradise stamps.

How about the pink feathers?  I have a whole bag of neon colored feathers that you'll be seeing a lot of this month.

 

 

I consider my style to be a combination Mixed Media style using the Gelatos and ink and Shabby and Chic with fun embellishments. This card was created with The Card Concept's Pretty in Pink challenge in mind. I love pink!

Happy Monday!

Can you believe it's October already! I'm so relieved that cooler weather is heading our way. I'll be leaving for Wisconsin in a few days and hope it's somewhat chilly. Of course last year, it was blazing hot and we went to a Packer game in shorts.

 

Towards the end of each month, I organize and put away the remaining supplies from that month's Club Scrap collection. I bring out stamps from other vendors and create some goodies with my neglected stamps and dies. This process allows me to dust off some stamps, find some long lost supplies and also cleans off my work space in the anticipation of the newest release.

 

I'm so in love with the Tim Holtz Blueprint stamps but I sometimes have a hard time creating artwork with them. Thanks to Pinterest I've come up with some fun color combinations.

This card was created for the Card Concept Sweet and Sour challenge. I thought these bright colors would be great for a birthday theme. I chose to do a mixed media style and use Copics, Stickles and Gelatos on my card panel. Even used a drop pearl for the flame.

I drive by fields of beautiful sunflowers on my way to work and admire their bold beauty. However, I do wish the blooms would last longer. I was excited to see that Sunflowers was this month's collection. While doing a search on Pinterest for sunflower ideas I came across many projects with bold beautiful flowers on a darker background using various markers. I love the look but I don't want to invest in another art medium. Which made me go way back into the memory banks of my mind to recall a retreat workshop. Don't know what year it was but it was when we learned how to use the Position It!

 

Stamp you image on the clear plastic. Place it where you want your design.

Line up the guide and stamp the image on black paper with white ink.

 Don't remeove the guide. Re-ink and stamp it again to make it extra white.

Heat set.



Next spray water on your rubber stamp. Color your stamp with Gelatos.

Using the Position It! line up your white image and your gelato gooey stamp and stamp. 

Here I spritzed water on the rubber stamp and stamped a second time.



Here's some of the finished cards. Each one is a little different in boldness.

Creative With Stamps is hosting a CAS (Clean and Simple) card challenge. It's their second of hopefully many challenges.  I usually have a hard time with CAS cards, I like lots of fluff on my cards.  For this challenge I stamped the flower twice using gelatos. One flower on the card base itself and one on a smaller panel. I added dimensional tape under the small panels to add lift.
