Celebrity Reflection

Just a quick double digital layout using Creative License digital kit in a non-automobile way.  In fact, the paper looks like water on the bottom which was perfect for my favorite photos of the ship we sailed across the Atlantic on.  I love all the empty "real estate" to work with on the right side.

Artist Team Metals

Welcome to the Club Scrap Artist Team challenge.  If you've arrived here from the dynamic Donna's blog you're in the right spot!  If you don't want to miss any projects start from the beginning at Club Scrap with Karen.

Our challenge this month to collaborate with the Creative License kit is to add metals (real or faux) to our projects, cards or layouts. I decided to combine two past retreat classes into one project. I was due for a new art notebook so why not cover it in aluminum tape?!

 Start with a blank journal.

Cover with die cuts, letters, tickets and tags. 

Adhere aluminum tape strips to front of journal 

Start pressing aluminum tape into cover and embellishments with fingers first. Slowly and gently start burnishing with embossing tools. 

We received this great paper crafting tool kit at retreat. I start with the largest tool and work my way to the smallest tool to keep from tearing the aluminum tape. I then add little dots to look like nails and slashes to look like staples. 

When you're happy with the finished result, paint the entire cover in black acrylic paint.
Make sure to press the paint into the little nooks and crannies. 

Wipe the black paint away with a paper towel. Lit sit to dry thoroughly. 

Cover backside and inside covers with cardstock of choice. 

I'm not done yet.  I felt that this project didn't really convey the need for metals in the Creative License kit. Just my need for metals ;-) I created this layout of my nephew at Easter.  I mixed platinum Color Bursts with texture paste and applied in random spots using a stencil.  I was going for the translucent look of bubbles. I then stamped on round metal tags with StazOn ink. I created strips using papers, ribbon and denim.  The "Spring" license plate was a perfect title!

Creative License Blog Hop

I love the masculine images, color and feel to this kit. It just so happens to encompass one of my favorite pastimes...travel. Well...it's really about cars but that's how I like to travel. 

I originally was only going to do a layout with the picture on the left. The yellows and aqua colors really set off this photo well but I couldn't come up with a design that I really liked. So I decided to use the 5 of Spades from the Idea Deck Challenge over on the Club Scrap Forum. I was a little nervous about using all those little rectangles but really loved the way the printed cardstock accented my photo. 

I flicked Metallic Color Bursts on the yellow cardstock, trimmed the wheels from a printed page and used the left over pieces for the rectangles. Embossed the two plain right side panels and added wood and metal embellishments to balance out the pages. The title was created with the Creative License digital kit, printed out and fussy cut.

Faith Hope Love

Creative With Stamps is hosting a CAS (Clean and Simple) card challenge. It's their second of hopefully many challenges.  I usually have a hard time with CAS cards, I like lots of fluff on my cards.  For this challenge I stamped the flower twice using gelatos. One flower on the card base itself and one on a smaller panel. I added dimensional tape under the small panels to add lift.

Enjoy Life

I don't normally scrap in one page layouts but sometimes I have extra photos or just not enough photos to make a two page layout.  This sketch from Scrapbook Challenges #481 was a perfect match for some night time Disney photos.  The crazy thing about this trip was that my husband and I went to Disneyland just the two of us and then ran into our wonderful friends from Sacramento. We had a blast playing like children!

Faux Patina

Over at Club Scrap Anne Marie challenged us on creating a faux patina look for our projects, layouts and cards using acrylic paints and texture paste.  I'm going to show a different way to create a patina look using texture paste and Color Bursts. 

I started by trying different texture paste mediums with different applications. I found that I really liked the thicker paste.  First I mixed the copper Color Burst with the texture paste in a small amount on my craft sheet. I slathered the thicker paste on one card and used a stencil for the second. Let it dry. 

I then puffed the turquoise Color Burst directly on top of the panels and added water. 

I just rubbed my fingers of the thicker texture paste after the Color Bursts dried to bring more of the cooper out.

Live Life with a Little Spice

While exploring Barcelona, we stumbled across a market on Las Ramblas. This market was AMAZING! You could buy almost any type of food.  The seafood was so fresh that the shellfish would jump off the stands. Some of the products available were a little horrifying but I who am I to judge. 

This layout was created for the NBUS (New but unused stamps) challenge at Club Scrap. I couldn't find a food stamp (digital) that went with the photos so I took a cherry stamps and erased the stem, changed the color and made it a virtual die cut to look like olives. What's great about these challenges is that you can be either a paper or digital crafter.

NR1DAD

There are many crafting challenges going on over at the Club Scrap forum. I love that these challenges push me to use supplies that I forgot I had or rarely use. Today I'm working on completing the Idea Deck challenge which allows us to create from whichever Idea Deck (there are 5) you own. This month is the 5 of Spades.  I chose to use the sketch from Card Idea Deck II and put my own little spin on the sketches so their not quite the same. I find it very useful to have a sketch design and cutting instructions to work with so I can concentrate on the artistic side of the project.

You're a Classic

I've been wanting to use my car themed washi tapes for sometime now and the May Sketch Challenge at Club Scrap was a perfect fit.  I thought it would be fun to add some different types of embellishments to go with the theme. Sometimes flowers, hearts and butterflies just wont do. 

Believe in Yourself

This is one of my favorite quotes.

Now imagine my surprise when I found out it's from Vince Lombardi!!!  I've actually had this stamp for years, used only a few times and just NOW realized Lombardi connection.

Faux Metal Papers

I wanted to share a wonderful technique with you on how to create your own faux metallic papers. I recently purchased these metallic Pan Pastels on sale at Aaron Brothers, knowing I'd "need" them in the future.  Bingo!

Start with black cardstock. Here I am using the Sizzix metal plate embossing folder to add dimension.

Add little dabs of Pan Pastel metallics on to cardstock. 

Blend the colors, adding touches of color until you like what you've got. 

Of course, the photos don't do it justice.  Here is a plain black cardstock next to my "metallic" cardstock.

Some people use a fixodent spray to seal the Pan Pastels. I use cheap hairspray.

Wildly Successful.

The newest Cupcake Inspirations challenge uses a flag banner which I always love the look of, but hate creating. I can not for the life of me get those banners to work out for me. The banner that I have on this card actually comes prestringed...all you have to do is punch it out of a master sheet. I can't even get that right sometimes. I think we're not meant to be friends ;-)

For those of you that know me personally...you know you'll never receive this card from me.  I'm way to OCD to forget birthdays...but it could happen. The background was actually created using my "trash" paper to clean off areas of stencils after using Color Bursts. I actually almost signed the sheet of paper and framed it!

I'm just really having fun with the license plate stamps from this month's Creative License collection! Here's a card created for the Can You Case it? Color Challenge using the license plate stamps to complete the masculine look and feel of these papers.

Creative License Unmounted Stamps

I'm in love with the Creative License unmounted rubber stamps!

The little license plate stamp is cleaver!

 

 

I want to share an easy way to mount and cut these alphabets.  I used to cut the letters out individually first and then apply Mount-It. But I learned a new trick last year that was so much easier for me.  I cut out the alphabet grouping and then the other elements individually.

 

I have an old pizza box that I coated the inside with Mount-It to make the surface tacky. I've been using this box for years without ever having to reapply adhesive. I place my rubber stamped images upside down in the box and apply Mount-It with a foam brush. Set aside and let dry over night.

 

Now to cut the alphabet letters out separately I coat my scissors with VersaMark Watermark ink. This keeps the scissors from picking up the adhesive and getting all gummy. As you can see...my watermark ink made it a little too close to my Color Bursts but it doesn't show up when stamping. :)

A Best Friend

I finally have the Creative License kit in my hands!  Of course I had to dive right in and start making cards.  It was National Scrapbooking Day after all!  I created this sketch based on the Tuesday Morning #350 Sketch Challenge.
